The skiing and snowboarding season looks set to kick off in B.C.

Sun Peaks Resort, Canada’s second largest ski area located north of Kamloops, will open this weekend, with lifts starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Sun Peak, north of Kamloops, says staff are “working around the clock” to get as many trails as possible ready for Saturday.

The Sunburst Express, Crystal, and Elevation chairlifts will open, and staff say with more snow in the forecast the resort may be able to open skiing to the bottom at some point on the weekend. The number of runs open may change, but it looks like 15 will be open on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Big White, near Kelowna, and Whistler-Backcomb are both scheduled to open Nov. 22.

The North Shore resorts don’t have confirmed opening dates yet. Cypress Mountain said it will open when there is enough snow, likely at the end of November, while a spokeswoman for Grouse said the opening will depend on the conditions.
